Today FM’s Play Irish Artist of the week – Fintan McKahey’s new GOD GAMES EP is an eclectic, down tempo, altpop production, in the style of Ben Howard and Chet Faker. The title track ‘God Games’ is a love song, which invites the listener to transcend the mundane, venture forth and imagine other realms. NIALL Mc GUIGAN
NIALL MC GUIGAN Rock, Folk
Niall Mc Guigan is a musician and practicing music therapist from Castleblayney, Co.Monaghan, Ireland. Specializing in medical ethnomusicology, Niall has researched the topic of music & healing within shamanic & neo-shamanic traditions and also the development of therapeutic presence as a music therapist.
As a musician he has performed in a variety of bands ranging from metal, grunge, rock, traditional Irish music, funk & reggae and also at festivals such as Electric Picnic, Glastonbury, Earth Garden & The Bubble festival (Malta).
The debut album “Awareness” is a collection of songs written over a period of six years expressing experiences of travel, education and self-discovery. Similar to the idea of songlines, a term used in aboriginal culture to describe songs that create a map, each song has a distinct story, life lesson or meditation that guides attention within, towards self-discovery and connection with the heart.
The album incorporates many musical styles including reggae, folk, rock, and Khoomii (Mongolian throat singing). This is fused with a variety of cross-cultural influences ranging from South American shamanism to eastern meditation practices.
Niall is currently touring Ireland & Europe with his experiential concert “Discovering stillness through music & self-enquiry”. This is an experiential music concert which offers participants the opportunity to recognize our natural state, a state of “being” through music, dialogue, and group voice work.
The interactive nature of the concert and introspective focus unlocks our ability to observe and question the psychological mind using awareness and the natural curiosity of self-discovery.
Music is an incredible tool which helps us to access a deeper connection with the heart as it is through the heart that we deepen our sense of “being”. Through this connection, self-enquiry can begin to uncover our true nature, the heart of reality and an ever present stillness within.
The album “Spiritual Anarchy” is a return to Niall’s rock roots mixing his folk & world music influences together with a message of self-actualisation and personal freedom.

Camille Donegan will speak about the Power of Virtual Embodiment, how VR is hacking brains, what’s happening at a neurological level and how we can use this for good.
Camille Donegan is an award winning Virtual Reality Producer, speaker and curator. She is General Manager and Producer at Virtual Reality Ireland.
In 2019, a VR Training product she designed and produced won the IITD (Irish Institute of Training and Development) award for ‘Excellence in Digital Learning’. This product puts new call centre agents into the virtual perspective, and body, of an experienced sales agent, tricking their mind into believing they have already achieved a successful sales call.
More recently she has taken this concept and applied it as a confidence-building tool for older patients that are nervous about being discharged from hospital. The solution was co-designed with staff at the hospital to address patients anxieties about re-assimilating in to society.
Camille created and curated Ireland’s first VR strand at an arts festival for Carlow Arts Festival 2019. This consisted of a VR Cinema, an interactive strand and several talks and workshops.
Camille’s background is an unusual one, an actor and theatre maker parallel to a career as software developer in a bank for over 13 years before discovering the power of virtual reality, in 2015.
She runs a meetup called XRDublin bringing together a diverse community of VR enthusiasts and creators from business, tech, the arts and academia.

SHOWCASE: MORITZ WALDEMEYER x JAMIROQUAI
In early 2016 one of the most exciting briefs in the 12 year history of Studio Waldemeyer arrived in the form of a phone call: Can we redesign the stage appearance of Jay Kay, front man of Jamiroquai.
With the background of Jay Kay’s tradition of eccentric head gear and the pangolin’s stunning scaled skin as a starting point we set to work. The song ‘Automaton’ gave a futuristic design direction, approved and inspired the use of some of the world’s most advanced modelling tools. Shape shifting thanks to robotic scales and with full control over every LED pixel, information pills this 3D printed hat is the most advanced piece of millinery on the planet today.

Originally from Germany, Moritz moved to London in 1995 to study engineering at Kings College. He completed his Mechatronics master’s degree in 2001 before making his debut into the design world, enabling interactive show pieces for Swarovski’s Crystal Palace exhibition. The studio has also made its mark in the music industry by creating high-tech, light-studded costumes for a range of a-list clients including U2, Rihanna, and also the London Olympics Handover Ceremony performers. In 2017 his studio performed a complete redesign of Jamiroquai’s stage persona, in the form of a parametric robotic hat. The same year, the studio created the new lighting brand “mori.london” via a Kickstarter campaign, as a vehicle to sell innovative lighting products directly online. Moritz acts as head designer in everything the studio undertakes, crafting his signature aesthetic into each piece.

SUN MAHSHENE
SUN MAHSHENE Indie Rock, Shoegaze
What started off as a solo project by guitarist, vocalist and songwriter Nathan Henderson, soon turned into a collective of talented musicians, bringing Dave Murray on board for drumming duty and Ian McGinn on rhythm and lead guitar. With a mutual ambition to create something special they decided to merge their wide range of influences and joined forces with Darren Hughes on Bass and Ryan Daffy as third guitarist. What soon would follow is a fresh take on dark-tinged psychedelic indie rock. Having been described as sounding like somewhere between The Jesus And Mary Chain and Ride it’s no wonder Sun Mahshene are creating a stir. In order to produce an ethereal, mammoth wall of sound the band employ an arsenal of three guitarists to maximum effect, backed by heavy bass grooves and powerful drums. Their key focus is to capture the sonic assault and fueled aggression of their studio sessions and take it to the masses!

PURSUED BY DOGS
PURSUED BY DOGS Electronic, Indie
Pursued by Dogs are a three-piece from Dublin, Ireland who make electronic dark-pop with loud guitars, lush key arrangements and the striking vocal harmonies of Suzanne Purcell and Andrew Brennan – all doused in slick electronica thanks to Ro Marr’s live production skills. Their disparate influences mix to make music that maybe shouldn’t work – but somehow it does. Think Radiohead meets Christian Löffler. U2 meets Stimming X Lambert. The National meets Tale of Us. “We love electronic music that has real, live instrumentation in it – and that obviously ties into the way we work,” say Pursued by Dogs. A lot of bands try to do what Pursued by Dogs are doing by mixing electronica with indie music, but few pull it off with such apparent ease. Their incendiary shows have quickly earned them a formidable reputation as a live band that you just cannot afford to miss – their track record of sell-out shows is testament to this.

MÁNI ORRASON
MANI ORRASON Indie, Pop
Máni Orrason’s second album “I Woke Up Waiting” was only released in the spring of 2018, and yet it seems to be an eternity ago. A lot has happened for the young artist since, including discovering new facets in his music and working them out alongside a producer on the EP. Intense months lie behind the 20-year-old, who not only found a new love, but also developed a new relationship with his musical work. The new EP »BABY ANGEL« is about falling in love and about what comes afterwards – despair, longing and other inevitabilities. It moves freely between dreaming and waking, brooding and letting go, and documents a significant personal as well as artistic development. “I wanted to get away from this four-piece-indie-band approach,” explains Orrason, who chose to step away from more traditional acoustic guitar songwriting, to work instead with synths, drum machines, and loops. It was the timelessness of the arrangements that shaped the sound of “I Woke Up Waiting”. Now, everything sounds much more modern. And just as he has experienced songwriting anew, the musician also experienced himself anew in the context of his romantic relationship. “I’ve changed,” he says, “I feel more hopeful, more stable, feel love for so many things around me”, he says happily. On the new record, Máni becomes tangible – at least for the moment. The 6 song EP is going through the big feelings – from the die-hard queer crush in “Cowboy Cold”, to the fears for the future in “I Swear It’s True” and the exasperated frustration in “Numb”, to the bigger questions about self that “Picture I Recall” poses. Even if we experience Orrason here in his most thoughtful moments so far: the cheerfulness doesn’t get lost in the synthie-darkroom. The EP shows Orrason in a new and exciting electronic environment in which he thrives. Producer Nikolai Potthoff, with whom Orrason travelled from Berlin to his old home in Spain, helped to tap the full potential of the new songs before they found their final form in Berlin. It has been almost five years since Máni Orrason became known in his native Iceland. With the pop-folk hit “Fed All My Days”, he came into the focus of the music world and secured his first festival appearances. His debut album “Repeating Patterns” and the subsequent “Wake Me Up” EP further testified to his musical class. »BABY ANGEL« shows an unusual and captivating young artist, who is not only ahead of his age, but also ahead of his time.

VINCI
VINCI Indie, Pop
VINCI is an upcoming Irish band with a global sound, drawing comparisons to Coldplay, Imagine Dragons and Mumford and Sons, along with Irish acts such as U2, The Script, Hozier, and recent break-through, Dermot Kennedy. The band features vocals, acoustic/electric guitar, bass/bass synth, drums/pads and cello/keys. The balance and variety in their songs and sound, allows them to perform as a 3, 4 or 5 piece band. The name VINCI comes from the latin word, “vincere” meaning to defeat, to beat, to conquer, to overcome.
VINCI’s music embodies the archetype of the hero; creating a genre-defiant, cinematic-anthemic sound, that triumphs over tragedy; mimicking their own personal story. “Lions” is the brand new single by VINCI, which was mixed by Mark Needham (The Killers, Imagine Dragons, The 1975) The song speaks to this hero archetype, with lyrical nods to ancient history and mythology, speaking to the importance of timing. The timing is right for them, now. “Lions” is being championed by US agent Sat Bisla (A&R Worldwide/Musexpo) who has a track record of securing deals for UK/Irish artists in the US (Coldplay/Adele/Sam Smith/Keane/Lily Allen). This song has drawn comparisons to Hozier, Imagine Dragons, Rag’n’Bone Man, Mumford and Sons and U2.
Following a family tragedy, the band pulled together to fly to Los Angeles for an audition, and secured the headline spot at the 14th annual Oscar Wilde Awards at the Bad Robot Studios owned by JJ Abrams (Lost, Start Trek, Star Wars), a first for an unsigned band, where they were noticed and featured by The Hollywood Reporter and Billboard, along with mainstream Irish press such as RTE, TV3 and Hot Press. As a completely independent outfit, VINCI has sold out shows in Dublin, been invited to perform for the President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins, filmed the first ever music video at Dublin City Hall and earned national airplay support on RTE 2FM. VINCI, with good friend Mark Doyle, recently wrote, cast, produced and directed the music video for their single “When We Go Out,” which highlights the homeless crisis in Ireland and features Irish actor Aidan Gillen (Game of Thrones, The Wire, Bohemian Rhapsody).

Today FM’s Play Irish Artist of the week – Fintan McKahey’s new GOD GAMES EP is an eclectic, down tempo, altpop production, in the style of Ben Howard and Chet Faker.

Director and Head Design | MORITZ WALDEMEYER DESIGN STUDIO
Moritz Waldemeyer is an internationally renowned designer based in London. His work occupies a diverse range of creative spaces, from art and product design to fashion and entertainment. Originally from Germany, Moritz moved to London in 1995 to study engineering at Kings College. He completed his Mechatronics master’s degree in 2001 before making his debut into the design world, enabling interactive show pieces for Swarovski’s Crystal Palace exhibition. Following his early collaborative work for the likes of Hussein Chalayan and Zaha Hadid, Moritz soon established himself as an independent designer. He held his first two gallery exhibitions “Electric Kid” and “By Royal Appointment” between 2006 and 2007. A year later, Moritz exhibited in MoMA’s Design & the Elastic Mind exhibition. In 2013 his lighting product ‘My New Flame’ was unveiled as part of MoMA’s permanent collection. Moritz founded his own Studio in 2004, enabling him to work on large-scale, independent projects. The Studio was built on a philosophy of playful experimentation by forging links between technology, art, fashion and design. This approach has resulted in a number of bespoke installations for brands like Audi, Panerai and Rinascente as well as a series of eccentric LED-embedded hats designed in collaboration with Philip Treacy. The same year, the studio created the new lighting brand “mori.london” via a Kickstarter campaign, as a vehicle to sell innovative lighting products directly online. Moritz acts as head designer in everything the studio undertakes, crafting his signature aesthetic into each piece.
